Lucas has been passionate about barbershop and choral music since childhood. As a coach and lecturer, he combines his work as a certified Alexander Technique teacher โ with a focus on body awareness and habit recognition โ with his training as a voice teacher certified by the Lichtenberger Institute for Applied Voice Physiology. Holding a PhD in physics, he is an overtone enthusiast who naturally blends scientific thinking with vocal pedagogy. His core passion is discovering potential in individuals and ensembles and helping it unfold.
Since 2023, Lucas has been a certified BinG! (Barbershop in Germany) coach and has served on the faculty of several Harmony Colleges and Harmony Universities. In 2026, he certified as a BHS judge (singing category). He currently sings with the German male quartet Barberpapas and the choir Heavy Medal, and has competed internationally in barbershop, becoming European Male Quartet Champion in 2013. Lucas is a founding member of the BinG! youth association and is deeply committed to youth development and to sharing the joy of barbershop music.
Quartet Coaching WE
A coaching weekend for quartets and choirs
A weekend of coaching with Lucas Bitzer
In partnership with SWISS Singers, the official SWISS Airlines company choir, I am thrilled to announce our next SWABS event, dedicated to quartets and choirs specifically. On 31 October and possibly 1 November, the BHS (Barbershop Harmony Society) certified singing judge and BinG! (Barbershop in Germany!) certified coach Lucas Bitzer will be joining us to spend the weekend sharing his craft with us. I am beyond excited to have him share his passion and expertise with us.
The coaching weekend takes place at the SWISS Airlines headquarters in Kloten, a 5-minute bus ride and a 10-minute walk from Zurich Airport. We expect everything to happen on Saturday; based on demand, however, Sunday morning and/or Friday evening can be opened up. While only one group is coached at a time, additional rehearsal rooms will be available for you to work as you wish, for free.
On Saturday evening, while no exact plan will be made, you can expect a small afterglow and an open stage for everyone to enjoy, starting at about 6 PM. It will be the opportunity to showcase your work to the other quartets and people present, sing tags together, eat pizza and more. Good vibes guaranteed!
Finally, we are aware that it will be hard for some of you to come with your full quartet on shorter notice. We greatly encourage you to still come, either individually or as a reduced formation, even if only for the evening. As long as quartets accept, the coaching sessions will be public, allowing you to learn from them.
To accommodate his presence, the following coaching fees will be asked:
- Base price of 120 CHF for the first hour, or 70 CHF for SWABS registered quartets (become members to register your quartet)
- 50 CHF per additional hour
Note that what both Lucas and us care most about is getting as many of you to learn more about barbershop and practice together. If money is an issue for any reason at all, please let us know and we will find a way to make it work together.
